!Another year has come and gone. Just like most things in life, there is a beginning and an end. For me, this year was a blur of one event to the other. I was on a roll. The only thing that kept me grounded this year though was God. I know I failed Him a lot this year, but He remained faithful and this is why I am thankful. He didn’t give me what I deserved and in His mercy, He preserved my life.
The struggle was reaaaallll…..mehn! At the beginning of the year, I decide to follow the Bible in a Year plan. It wasn’t easy, but I did it. I also did a bunch of stuff that I didn’t know I was capable of. I prayed and fasted for unbelievable amounts of time. All the experiences were all amazing. I almost can’t wait to unravel what’s in store, 2016.
I recently watched Star Wars: The Force Awakens and it was beautiful. Quite surprisingly, I also gained some insights for this post from the movie. Now, I’m always very sceptical about watching films these days because all of them are mostly sex themed. Sex is real, but I do not need it to be thrown in my face every time I put on my T. v. Back to Star Wars, the character, Rey, depicted some behaviours that are juxtapose-able with the way Christians should live. First, Rey was a scavenger and she would scavenge to trade in all she had gotten for just ½ portion of food. Then one day, she has a droid with her, which is of marketable quality. She is offered 60 portions of food for that droid. She refuses the offer. Somehow, she knew that what she had with her was more important.
This is where most Christians miss it. By the standards of the world, they are getting the best deal when they are in fact short-changing themselves. This is because God’s plans for us are always much more than we can ever think of. Rey as a result of ensuring the droid’s safe passage became a Jedi. The force called to her and she surpassed all she could ever think for herself. Rey probably thought she was going to remain in Jakku waiting for her family that was never coming back. If only she knew; but you can’t know the end of a thing from the beginning.
Another important point is that Rey was prepared. She could have just been idle in the community, but were the odds that shed know how to fly a millennium falcon? How prepared are you with the word of God?
Just like a lot of Christians today. Wallowing in their present situation, not seeing the bigger picture. If you can think it, Gods thinking is much larger. With God, the possibilities are limitless. For this to happen, there has to be a separation. Just the way Rey was yanked from scavenging, that’s the same way God desperately wants to yank us away from the sins that easily beset us.
In this New Year, don’t short change yourself, be prepared.
