The starting point of fulfilling purpose is being productive. Being productive is synonymous with being fruitful. In Genesis 1:28, the Bible says, Be fruitful and multiply. At the very beginning of creation, we can categorise the instruction given to man into 3. One, cultivate the land and keep it. Two, the institution of the law with the purpose of teaching people to live under authority. Three, the institution of marriage to expose people to the principle of love and to teach people how to live for someone other than themselves. How did God intend for us to fulfil all these instructions? Simply by using everything He had provided for us here on earth to serve Him and humanity. Working for the good of the land.
This is at the bedrock of all our obedience to God. We must as a show of obedience be productive in all we do. Whatever your hands find to do, do it well. Not just being productive, but also providing for your immediate family and near relatives. Failure to provide for one’s family is equal to a denial of the faith. In 1 Timothy 5: 8, the Bible says, ‘But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.’
We can only obey this instruction if we have a source of income. As a Christian, you must also be doing something worthwhile with your life. If you are unable to care for your own immediate family, how then do you want to care for the lost sheep of the Kingdom of God? We have to remove the log in our own eyes before we can remove the splint in others. If you feel there’s nothing you can do to yield money, pray earnestly to God to make a way for you to do so.
