2 Corinthians 6: 16, ‘…for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people’.
This is just absolutely amazing, I read this verse and I’m just angry at myself. I’m angry because I really did not understand what I got when I became a Christian. I’m angry because I’ve just been using the temple of God anyhow I liked. But I’m happy that I have at least come to this realisation.
Yes, the Bible is the Word of God and if we carry it around, we are carrying God around because God is His Word. But we are capable of much more than that. This is because we carry God on the inside of us. The verse says, ‘ye are the temple’. This ‘ye’ refers to our spirits. The Spirit of God resides in our spirits. When it comes to you, God’s address is your spirit. However, because our bodies are the temples for our spirits; and God’s Spirit resides in our own spirit. The body invariably becomes the temple of the Lord.
We have the all-knowing God on the inside of us and this is something we should take advantage of by developing our spirits. God speaks to us through the inward witness. A lot of so-called misfortune that happens to Christians can be very well avoided if only people began to develop their spirits. This development comes mostly by waiting. Many a times, if we would have waited, God would have shown us.
We have never yet plumbed the depth of what God is really saying, ‘I will dwell in them. I will live in them. I will walk in them’. If God is dwelling in us (and He is), then that’s where He will speak to us.
