Psalm 37: 4 – ‘Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart’.
Prayer is a very tricky subject. People pray all the time and nothing seems to be changing. You may now begin to wonder, ‘why is this’? Let me put it this way, God did not give us prayer as a means of communication in vacuo. There is a divine purpose and plan for prayer. If you are not aligned with that divine purpose and plan, you won’t access what you are after.
How then? Joshua 1: 8 is not only for little kids. It is a very important scripture for believers who want to see results in their prayer lives. It says, ‘This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous and then thou shalt have good success’.
A big step in prayer is knowing the Word of God. If what you are praying for is in contrast with the Word of God, then that would be a wrong prayer and will not yield any results. After meditating on the Word of God and finding out the will of God in any situation, we will then be led in prayer.
Prayer most times does not happen of our volition. The Holy Spirit leads you to a verse of scripture and the Spirit impresses on your heart top pray a certain kind of prayer because, God will not come down to pray on the earth. He needs us to invite Him to be at work.
And so Jesus in teaching His disciples how to pray in Matthew 6: 9 – 13 gave a remarkable template for prayer. Beyond this, the possibilities with prayer are indeed endless. When our minds are in alignment with the mind of Christ, when our will’s are fused with the will of God; then and only then will we be praying and truly praying the mind of Christ.
