The Foundation

Trust me, it is not only coming to church that matters in this Christian race. We could have been coming to church for the past 25 years and never gotten the real value in Christianity. Attendance is not what really matters. The state of your heart however, is very vital in unlocking the Word in your life. The Bible 1 Peter 2: 2 (NLT) says, ‘Like new born babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment’.

The Bible then says in Psalm 11: 3 (KJV), ‘If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?’ Going back to the milk verse. As babies, desiring the sincere milk. The pure substance of God’s Word. Undiluted, unrefined, uncontaminated. If you give a baby bad milk, the likelihood of his/her survival is very minimal. This food can be seen as the baby’s foundation. All they need to grow is gotten from the milk that they take. It is only when they are grown and have developed all what they need to develop to process more complex food groups that they start eating them. Pounded Yam does not come before milk. The milk is our foundation.

Most of us have eaten Pounded Yam, but we have not drunk milk. At the very least, we drink the milk after eating the Pounded Yam. When we do this we are putting the cart before the horse. We are putting the building before the foundation. The milk of the Word should be the foundation of every Christian. There is no need to rush, to everything under the earth there is a season (Ecclesiastes 3:1).

We go about churches, looking for rhema (revelation of the Word of God), when we have not even understood the logos (the Word of God). Understanding the Word of God is however not an intellectual exercise. You cannot approach God’s Word the same way you approach mathematics or any other subject. To understand God’s Word, you need the help of the Holy Spirit. In Matthew 16: 15 – 17, when Peter said, you are the Christ, Son of the Living God. Jesus said that flesh and blood had not revealed it unto him. Flesh and blood cannot reveal the mysteries in the Bible. God says the words He speaks unto us, they are spirit and they are life. God is a Spirit and we are in the image of God. We are therefore spirit. So if you’re looking at Words that are spirit without the involvement of your spirit, you will be wrong.

The foundation of our Christian life is a proper understanding of the Word of God that comes only by the Spirit of God.
